Obama vs. Osama part 1212009: here come the troops

Will 30,000 more to Afghanistan be enough? If we had to field 300,000, we could. (In World War II, we had well over 10 million men under arms…)

Stand strong Sarah; or, high on Chrystal methods

See CNN Political Ticker, ‘Now is not the time for cold feet,’ Palin says of Afghanistan,

Former Republican vice presidential hopeful Sarah Palin has once again taken to Facebook to make her voice heard in the national debate — this time over military strategy in Afghanistan.
Palin published a note on her Facebook page Tuesday that encourages President Barack Obama to grant a request for the tens of thousands of additional troops reportedly requested by Gen. Stanley McChrystal, the top U.S. commander in the country.
“Now is not the time for cold feet, second thoughts, or indecision,” Palin wrote on the site. “It is the time to act as commander-in-chief and approve the troops so clearly needed in Afghanistan.”
Noting the possible consequences of not helping to build up Afghanistan’s institutions, the former Alaska governor also wholeheartedly endorsed McChrystal’s counterinsurgency approach to continued U.S. military presence in the country.
“We can win in Afghanistan by helping the Afghans build a stable representative state able to defend itself. And we must do what it takes to prevail. The stakes are very high. The 9/11 attacks were planned in Afghanistan, and if we are not successful there, al Qaeda will once again find a safe haven, the Taliban will impose its cruelty on the Afghan people, and Pakistan will be less stable.” …

     “You go girl!!”

al-Qaida more pressing than Band-Aids or polar bears

See the Michigan Daily, Chris Koslowski: The forgotten fight in Afghanistan,

…If Al-Qaeda perceives weakness in the United States government over the Middle East wars, it will validate their plan to defeat us.
…in a confidential document leaked to the Washington Post this week, General Stanley McChrystal, lead commander of U.S. and NATO forces in Afghanistan, said the U.S. will lose in Afghanistan unless more troops are brought to the fight. …
Even if you disagree with Obama’s desire to stay in Afghanistan, you should be wondering why his administration was devoting so much attention to health care and climate change with this bombshell sitting on his desk. McChrystal guarantees that a failure to change tactics will result in defeat. Obama should have been acting quickly on the General’s advice or designing a plan to remove our troops before the situation becomes even more deadly.
Obama’s hesitation to address this report as seriously as he has addressed health care sends the wrong message to Al-Qaeda. Maybe the administration will surprise me with news of a well-reasoned troop increase plan within the coming days, but I fear Obama has been purposefully delaying action so as not to alienate Democrat support for the public health insurance option. His support margin is so thin that the risk of an unpopular troop increase driving away potential votes is too great.
Regardless of his behind-the-scene motives, Obama needs to follow in the steps of Dick Cheney and take a strong stand on Afghanistan if he hopes to keep Al-Qaeda and its supporters at bay. Shuffling his feet, especially for political reasons, makes the U.S. appear weak, energizes the opposition and validates their strategy. Obama promised a better future for Afghanistan. Around half of America disagrees with him over health care. Any minuscule impact we could have on the Earth’s climate would take decades to occur. The American and Afghani lives at risk in an extremely unstable situation demand that Obama take action now. It’s about time he gave this issue the attention it deserves.

     Good call!!

Getting high on Obama, or, hero and heroin, or, Hope and Dope, or, white horse and White House

See the Smoking Gun, The Audacity Of Dope–Cops: New York dealers sold heroin branded with president’s name,

Add heroin to the scores of products that have been branded with President Barack Obama’s name. Cops in upstate New York this week broke up a drug ring that allegedly sold heroin under several brand names, including “Obama.” …the president’s surname was stamped in red ink on small glassine wrappers that were peddled by street dealers. Investigators arrested five suspects for their alleged roles in the narcotics distribution activity. The branding of illicit drugs is a favorite of pushers, who have previously sold bin Laden heroin, Harry Potter Ecstasy, bricks of Teletubbies cocaine, and green-tinted crack in recognition of St. Patrick’s Day.

Osama heroin AND Obama heroin. I tell ya.

Ossama becomes Obama: a hairy story from Chicago

WE will comment more on Ob’s inaugural Inauguration later, butfornow: see Chicago Sun-Times, Extreme makeover: Ossama’s hair salon now Obama’s….Business way down after Sept. 11, but now it’s thriving,

     What a difference a “B” makes.
A downtown Chicago hair salon has changed its name from Ossama’s Hair Design to Obama’s Hair Design — for exactly the reason you’d think:
Business is better when your name evokes one of the nation’s most popular figures, not one of its most hated.
“A lot of customers stopped coming after Sept. 11,” owner Mike Elsheikh said. “Old customers have come by and said, ‘We like it much better.’ … This is going to work for me for sure. The name is absolutely making a huge difference.” …
Elsheikh said he met Obama a few years ago when they both lived in the Hyde Park area. He hasn’t heard anything from the president-elect since the new name went up — and doesn’t expect him to object.
“It makes a lot of sense to me to name it Obama’s rather than Ossama’s,” Elsheikh said. “Plus Obama’s gonna get Osama.”

Hey that rhymes…and Obama vs. Osama is one of our favorite themes here! And not just post 136 above, but also post 36!!!
