Passover problems, or, “Matzo-zuma’s Revenge”

See Detroit News, Paper Chase: You can puncture that Passover illness,

…According to some Jews, they suffer an 11th plague during Passover from eating unleavened bread: constipation.
Matzo, flatbread made from flour and water, figures prominently in Passover celebrations. According to the Torah, Hebrews left Egypt in such a hurry there was no time to allow bread to rise.
Ever since, some have complained of digestive troubles during Passover. It may be humorous to some, but others say the issue is real.
A Facebook group, “Passover = National Constipation Week for Jewish People” has about 50 members. The Jewish Federation of North America urges Jews on its Web site to “take an Exodus from heavy fare and try fruits and veggies at Seder,” a feast on the first two nights of Passover. …

     “Pharaoh’s Revenge”, “Montezuma’s Revenge”, “Matzo-zuma’s Revenge”, whatever. L’chaim, be well God’s people.

Lady of Spain I adore me; or, one way to master sex education; or, ecch in Extremadura

See the Guardian, Spanish region takes hands-on approach to sex education: Officials launch campaign to teach young people about ’sexual self-exploration and discovery of self-pleasure’,

It is a subject that would make most governments blush, but officials in the Spanish region of Extremadura have launched a major programme to encourage what could be described as a more hands-on approach to sexuality.
The region’s socialist government has launched a €14,000 (£12,600) campaign aimed at teaching young people how best to set about “sexual self-exploration and the discovery of self-pleasure” – or to put it less delicately: masturbation.
“Pleasure is in your own hands” is the slogan of a campaign that has sparked political controversy and challenges traditional Roman Catholic views on people having sex, even on their own, for non-reproductive reasons.
“This is an intimate subject that should be dealt with at home,” complained local opposition leader Hernández Carrón of the rightwing People’s party. “We have become the laughing stock of Spain.” …
Commentators questioned why the poorest region in Spain was paying for a campaign to promote onanism.
“Extremadura should be pleased with itself,” sniped Pilar Rahola, a columnist in the Barcelona-based La Vanguardia newspaper. “It may have the most unemployed young people in Spain, but they will be the best at masturbation.”

A Pilar of the community. Give her a listen.

It’s the Great Palin, Charlie Brown; or, Dede dead in water on Halloween; or, Scozzafava beans with a nice Chianti

See Politico, “The Scorecard”, BREAKING: Scozzafava suspends NY 23 campaign,

Republican Dede Scozzafava has suspended her bid in next Tuesday’s NY 23 special election, a huge development that dramatically shakes up the race. She did not endorse either of her two opponents — Conservative party candidate Doug Hoffman or Democrat Bill Owens.
The decision to suspend her campaign is a boost for Hoffman, who already had the support of 50 percent of GOP voters, according to a newly-released Siena poll, and is now well-positioned to win over the 25 percent of Republicans who had been sticking with Scozzafava. …

, and North Country Public Radio, “The In Box”, Today’s Clear Winner: The Palin Movement,

A lot of questions will remain unanswered until the polls close Tuesday night, but one thing is absolutely certain:
The conservative movement that cohered around former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin in 2008 has emerged as the vibrant core of the modern Republican Party.
Moderates and pragmatists within the GOP — leaders as varied as Michael Steele and Newt Gingrich — had staked a slice of the party’s future on leaders like Dede Scozzafava. …
Now that movement leaders — and groups like Club for Growth — have sent Scozzafava packing, they are clearly kingmakers within the party. …

Moran’s morals vanquish Viagra; or, get a halo, Moran

See CNN Political Ticker, Congressman: No Viagra before 10 p.m.,

Former presidential candidate Robert Dole made headlines as a pitchman for Viagra, and now a decade later a Virginia congressman wants to limit the time when ads for this and similar products can air.
Last month, Democratic Rep. Jim Moran introduced the “Families for ED Advertising Decency Act,” which prevents erectile dysfunction and male enhancement ads from appearing on radio and television between the hours of 6 a.m. and 10 p.m.
“This [the advertisements] is an intrusion into our daily lives that I believe has become inappropriate.” Moran said in an interview with CNN. “There is a saturation of the television airwaves with these E.D. ads, and they have gotten more pervasive, more blunt, and less subtle.” …

A “Decency Democrat”? Who knew there were any of those??
